Students versus employees: meet Charles and Barry from Channel 9

While speakers were speaking, people were listening, guards were guarding and cooks were cooking, Will and I met Charles Torre (the dude with the cam and interesting questions on Channel 9) and Barry Dorrans (nickname blowdart in the Channel 9’s Coffeehouse).

We spoke about students, student life, Channel 9, what Charles studied, what Barry “studied”, why we like Robotic Studio *grin* and a lot of other very important stuff!

Tune in if you ever wanted to know who the guys on Channel 9 (posters as in Barry and hard workers as in Charles) are and why Charles started to work for Microsoft after having studied something completely different!

Niners on 9 interview has aired!

During TechEd Charles did an interview with some niners. He interviewed Zeus, JasonOlson and me. He was calling me on the phone and saying something like: c’mon littleguru we are waiting down at the fishbowl. We are doing a interview for channel 9. Want to join? And I: YES! We went out to the beach (near to the beach) and had this nice interview.

It is about Channel 9 and why we joined and what we like and dislike and what should be better etc. If you are on Channel 9 from time to time tune in - it might be interesting for you.

Meet the Microsoft Student Partner girls

At the TechEd’s Microsoft Student Partner evening Will and I were lucky to interview some of the women in the program (if you study computer science you might know how few women are studying with you).

Kateryna Drobotko (from Ukraine), Susana Vilaca (from Portugal) and Diana Tataran (from Romania) talk about their passion for technology and why they joined the Microsoft Student Partner program. We spoke also about what they enjoyed at TechEd and what they are studying on their home universities.

It was very interesting to see why these girls enjoy working with technology and what makes them passionate about it!

Don Syme and Joe Duffy on F# and Parallel FX

At Teched I had the chance to speak with Don Syme (the creator of F#) and Joe Duffy (he used to work in the BCL team and did some of the threading classes in there) about the ideas behind F# and what is coming up with the Parallel Framework for .NET. We spoke about the both because they overlap in the area on how to make code leverage the power of the multicore CPUs.

Don spoke also about what they do at Microsoft Research Cambridge and how to apply for an internship there.

David Platt and why software sucks!

Will and I had the chance to interview David Platt at the TechEd Developer Barcelona. He’s the author of the book with the title “Why software sucks” and professor at the Harvard University Extension School.

We spoke about why software is as it is right now and why it is to complicated for most users. David tells us also that the users shouldn’t care about how software works, they should be able to use it without knowing the internals!

Tune in, if you want to know what the common problems are that users encounter when they use the today’s software.

Stephen Forte on Web 2.0 and SOA

The first video featuring Will and me is online now. :-) Stephen is a great guy, he’s really enjoying what he does and it was really cool to chat with him!

That’s what Will wrote on Channel 8 about the video:
Christian and I were lucky enough to chat with Stephen Forte (Microsoft Regional Director for the NY Metro region) at TechEd Developers in Barcelona last week. We talked with him about his experiences being a judge at the first Imagine Cup and some of the great new technologies available to this year’s entrants including ASP.Net Ajax and SQL Server 2008. Stephen also offers some great advice on entering the world of business and his take on the Service Oriented revolution.

TechEd: Pictures

Alex posted some more pictures from TechEd. You can get them all on http://www.flickr.com/photos/gidion. The first images you see on there (speaking of right now after the TechEd) are from our last day in Barcelona. What’s interesting is that Alex is on none of the pictures - is that because he did them all ;-)

I like this one a lot (also by looking a little bit selfish):

Look at all the cool flowers in the background… we don’t have this in Vienna; yes it is raining (yesterday snowing) right now.

The cathedral of the Sagrada Familia is also awesome! Gaudì at his best:

TechEd: the last 3 days

I’m back home! Finally some time to write about the last three days at TechEd.

Again, it was just awesome! I met Barry Dorrans (you know, THE MVP) and tons of speakers. Really crazy stuff to get so many people to know in such a short time. I even got an interview with Don Syme and Joe Duffy (he bought me a beer). We spoke about different stuff, like F# and where the .NET runtime is going with multi cores. The interview will come up on Channel 8 soon. It’s right now on my camera and needs to be published.

I won’t spoil to much about who I interviewed in total - check out Channel 8 from time to time to get the information.

Btw. we finally think to know on what we want to post about on Channel 8: it should be the stuff that students don’t get at university. I hope we don’t suck to much at that - we did the best at TechEd. I hope you all are going to enjoy all the interviews that we did! Coming up soon…
